House on the slopes

This magnificent property on the edge of a ski mountain with a breathtaking view of a lake in the Eastern Townships was chosen by our clients to build their secondary home.

As a special feature, this house had to have neither a traditional pitched roof nor a flat roof. The need to integrate the house in its environment by means of plans establishes a relationship between the site and the house, between the interior and the exterior. The inverted composition of the roof slopes generated jagged ceilings, accentuating the perspectives towards the different views.

Its particular geometric form fits into the mountain landscape while responding to a restricted site with regulatory constraints. Anchored to the site by a massive base that bypasses a stream that must be preserved to meet local regulations.

The house stands like a lantern in the darkness of the mountain. The light allows residents and visitors to orient themselves in the mountain and projects light either in a framed way or through spotlights that highlight the architectural features of the building. The light fills the exterior and interior spaces whose warmth and comfort reassure the occupants once inside.
